Trudy Larson, Executive Director and Conductor of String Ensemble
Trudy Larson, former Executive Director and founder of the Northshore Youth Symphony Orchestra for eighteen years, continues to serve as founding director and strings director of the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras and serves on its Advisory Board. She is also a private Suzuki violin and viola teacher in North Andover, MA, where she has taught for the past 38 years and coached several string ensembles. Her students and ensembles have given many concerts in the community and for many years they have performed benefit concerts to support charitable causes.
In 2001, Trudy Larson was awarded the Massachusetts “Private String Teacher of the Year” by the Massachusetts American String Teachers-National String Orchestra Association, an honor that recognizes exemplary dedication and commitment to string education outside of the schools. She is a member of the Massachusetts Suzuki Association, the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the American String Teachers Association. Mrs. Larson is the founder and co-director of “Summer Strings,” a summer strings day camp in Lawrence for Lawrence violin students as well as other Merrimack Valley students. Mrs. Larson is co-founder of the Lawrence string program and serves as conductor of the performing ensemble
Marcia Lier, Founder and Teaching Director of Community Strings.
Marcia Lier is a Suzuki-trained violin teacher and teaches at both the Community Day Charter School Prospect – both upper and lower schools and at the Arlington School where she teaches five classes. Mrs. Lier has taught the Community Strings Program since 1998 to the present. As a youth, she was trained in violin at a Conservatory program in Canada. She has formerly worked with World Relief, done resettlement work with Vietnamese and Cambodian families and directed a Youth Center and Community Group home.
As an adult, Marcia led a children’s choir and drama group and served as an Enrichment Teacher at CDCPS. In addition she was a teacher’s assistant at Ashby Elementary School in Ashby MA and has worked with World Relief Refugee Service from 1980 – 1988 . She was co founder and co-director of refugee resettlement work for Vietnamese and Cambodian families from 1976-1978. In addition she served as Director of Manchester MA Youth Center and was house director of a community group home for borderline retarded and emotionally disturbed teens.
Is the assistant teacher for Up With Music’s violin program. Cimone has her B.A. in music education from Messiah College. She grew up in the Dallas Youth Symphony program where she taught in their summer programs for inner-city youth. She is also a vocalist, and as an alto she sung in the B. T. Washington H. S. Chorus and performed in-concert with B.T. Washington high school chorus with Josh Groban and also for the national convention of the National Association of Black School Educators. Since moving to Boston, she performs for musical theatre, operas, and plays in chamber music ensembles. She teaches in several community music programs and performs throughout the Greater Boston area.
Lynne Wilby, piano teacher, YDO
Lynne began piano lessons at the age of three; years later; she earned her Professional Diploma with concentrations in performance, music theory, and piano pedagogy. In 1995, she made music her full time vocation and established her own private piano studio. She enjoys sharing her love of music with her many students. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano, member of the NHMTA, and is the organist for Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Brentwood-Kingston. She performs extensively with string and woodwind players throughout New England.
Judith is a Lawrence parent of one of our Lawrence violin students. She is a master in secondary mathematics in the public schools.
